About David Weil

David Weil was named CEO of Anschutz Film Group (AFG) in 2004 where he oversees all facets of the company. During his tenure, AFG’s two production entities, Walden Media and Bristol Bay Productions, have produced numerous films, including the Academy Award®-winners The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Ray. Weil works directly with AFG’s owner, The Anschutz Corporation, on strategic planning for AFG as well as general operational issues.
Prior to joining AFG, Weil was an entertainment lawyer at O’Melveny & Myers for 25 years and Head of the firm’s Century City office. During his legal career at O’Melveny & Myers, Weil represented companies and individuals in virtually all areas of the entertainment and intellectual property fields, including the development, production, financing and distribution of motion pictures, television programs and other types of entertainment content. In addition to being Philip Anschutz’s key advisor on film investments, he also represented at various times Miramax Films, Bob and Harvey Weinstein, MGM, The Walt Disney Company, AOL/Time Warner, HBO, Comedy Central, Participant Productions (Jeff Skoll), Pandemonium Productions (Bill Mechanic), Bear Stearns, International Management Group, Goldman Sachs and numerous studio executives.
Weil has served as Staff Director of the International Trade Subcommittee, Banking Committee, U.S. House of Representatives; an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University Law School; a Member of the University of Southern California Entertainment Law Institute Planning Committee; and a speaker/panelist for numerous entertainment industry seminars. He has been named a California Lawyer magazine “Attorney of the Year” and a “Southern California Super Lawyer” in a survey conducted by Law & Politics Media, Inc. and published in Los Angeles magazine.
Weil attended Georgetown University Law School where he received his J.D. and Brandeis University where he earned an M.A. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University where he earned his B.A.
