Recent Graduate FAQ's

As a recent graduate, you still have an active student email and Wavenet account. Depending on your degree confirmation date, these accounts will expire 90 days past that date. The best way to continue using the Pepperdine name for resumes, business cards, and networking is to set up an email address with the alumni Email Forwarding service.

Why should I sign up for the alumni Email Forwarding service?

Right now, your primary goal may be to find a job. To show employers all that you have to offer, you can display @alumni.pepperdine.edu right on your resume. That way, employers will see the quality of your education from the get-go.

In the long run, you may change jobs, locations, and personal email accounts several times. Many things in your life may change, but your @alumni.pepperdine.edu email address will remain. Simply signup for the alumni Email Forwarding service at https://alumni.pepperdine.edu/email-forwarding, and your emails will be automatically redirected to you. You can change where those emails are forwarded to as often as you'd like.

What happens if someone emails me at my old student address?

Once your student account is disabled, you will no longer be able to receive emails at your student email address. The sender will receive a bounce-back message stating that your account no longer exists.

To ease your transition, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Setup the alumni Email Forwarding service at https://alumni.pepperdine.edu/email-forwarding.
  2. Transfer your important student emails and contacts from Wavenet to an outside personal (Gmail, Yahoo, or similar third party email service provider) email account.
  3. Set up an out-of-office message in your Wavenet account that will inform the senders of your incoming messages of your graduation and of your new @alumni.pepperdine.edu email address. This out-of-office message will continually notify your contacts as they attempt to reach you until the date that your account closes.

What happens to my student email account if I don't setup my alumni Email Forwarding service?

Your student email account will be closed whether you choose to use the alumni Email Forwarding service or not. They have no relation to one another. Depending on your degree confirmation date, your student account will expire 90 days past that date. All saved email messages and contacts are deleted at that time.

You will receive 90, 60 and 30-day notices prior to account's scheduled deletion.

Six months have passed since my graduation - can I sign up for the alumni Email Forwarding service now?

Yes, this benefit will always be available to you. Sign into https://alumni.pepperdine.edu/email-forwarding to setup the alumni Email Forwarding service. Once you have your new address, sign in to your outside e-mail account and follow these instructions so that you can also send emails from your new @alumni.pepperdine.edu address.
