Application Process
Raitt Recital Hall
Applicants will be asked to submit a visual audition, unedited, in NTSC format on DVD or VHS with clear audio of their playing. The camera should not be stopped between pieces. Contestants should also include a résumé of musical experience and a black-and-white photograph. Audio alone is not acceptable.
The audition (not to exceed thirty minutes) must include all of the following selections in addition to free-choice pieces.
- Fernando Sor: Variations on a Theme of Mozart, edited by Andrés Segovia (no introduction), Schott and Co. edition (approximate time 7:30)
- Castelnuovo -Tedesco: Melancolia from Platero y Yo, Bérben edition (approximate time 4:00)
- J.S. Bach: Gavotte from Sonata VI for Violin, E Major Partita, transcribed by Andrés Segovia, Schott and Co. edition (approximate time 3:30)
The application deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2006. Ten competitors will be chosen from the applications. Competitors will be notified by Wednesday, March 15, 2006.
Audition materials will not be returned.
Age Requirements
Applicants to the Parkening Young Guitarists Competition must have been born on or after January 1, 1988, however, young guitarists may elect to enter the Parkening International Guitar Competition at their discretion.
