THE COMPETITION    |    YOUNG GUITARIST COMPETITION    |    FOR THE AUDIENCE

Schedule

Prior to the start of the Parkening International Competition, eleven young guitarists will compete in a one-day session.

Tuesday May 30, 9:00 AM (eleven competitors):

All competitors will perform a program not to exceed twelve minutes. The program must include Melancolia from Platero y Yo by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Bérben edition (approximate time 4:00) and Gavotte from Sonata VI for Violin, E Major Partita by J.S. Bach transcribed by Andrés Segovia, Schott and Co. edition (approximate time 3:30). The balance of the program will be free choice.

Tuesday May 30, 1:30 PM (five finalists):

The five finalists will perform a program not to exceed fifteen minutes. The program must include Andante Cantabile by Robert Schumann (transcribed by Segovia), Ricordi edition (approximate time 3:00) and Variations on a Theme of Mozart by Fernando Sor, Segovia edition - no introduction, published by Schott and Co. (approximate time 7:30). The balance of the program will be free choice.

The Young Guitarist Competition performances will be open to the public and take place in Raitt Recital Hall.

The First Prize and the awards will be announced at a special reception in the Frederick R. Weisman Museum following the afternoon session.

Pepperdine University reserves the right to change any or all criteria or details pertaining to the Competition.
