Richard Alston Dance Company
Comparable to the great American dance company Alvin Ailey, this young British company of 10 (five men and five women), will perform a triple bill consisting of Fingerprint, set to J. S. Bach's Capriccio in B-flat Major, BWV 992, and Toccata in D Major, BWV 912 (played by an on-stage pianist); About-Face, choreographed by Alston company dancer Martin Lawrance and danced to Baroque viol music by Marin Marais; and Gypsy Mixture. Gypsy Mixture is described by Alston company spokesperson Chris May as "a crowd pleaser of epic proportions." Of its premiere, Scotland's newspaper The Herald called it "a glorious, life-enhancing ruckus; a caper across continents and dance styles…gorgeous, exuberantly danced fun."
