Type: Preaching Minister
Salary: 60,000 package
Description: The Church of Christ in Dos Palos, California is now accepting applications for a full-time preaching minister. A little bit about us: We are a friendly, diverse congregation with an average Sunday morning attendance in the 60s and 70s. We strive to be open and accepting of those seeking a walk with God. We don't see ourselves as a rigidly traditional Church or Christ, or as a “change agent” church. We seek simply to worship the Lord in Spirit and in Truth. As a rule, our membership actively participates in and supports our evening services, Bible classes, and other fellowship activities quite well. Our Sunday and Wednesday evening attendance often exceeds half of the Sunday morning worship total. We see level of dedication to service – development of church leaders and that “all-in” commitment to discipleship – as an area where we would like to grow, and would like a new minister to help us grow to meet those challenges. Like all congregations, we would like to grow numerically as well. We see relationship development as a foundational element in evangelism. We hope and pray that the relationships we build help people see the changes the Lord has wrought in us. We seek someone who will commit to being a member of the community of Dos Palos, who believes relationships are key to evangelism, and will help the lost meet the One responsible for setting us apart. What we would like to see in the ideal candidate: We seek a humble servant of the Lord; a family man; someone with at least a baccalaureate-level degree in Bible, ministry, or some related field from a brotherhood institution, or the equivalent thereof; someone with five or more years of full time ministry experience. We would prefer someone with the ability/preparation to provide at least crisis-aversion counseling – or the willingness to pursue that kind of certification. The ideal candidate will have the desire to occasionally teach youth and/or run youth events. For a candidate who closely matches these characteristics and this level of experience and preparation, we are prepared to offer a compensation package worth about $60,000 per year, includes a house, and could include insurance, utilities, and/or support for pursuit of continuing education. Candidates who do not meet all of our ideal characteristics, but have a strong interest in working with our congregation are still encouraged to apply. About Dos Palos: Dos Palos is a demographically diverse, rural, agriculture-based community in the San Joaquin Valley of Central California. Weather throughout the spring, summer and fall is quite mild. Summer days are hot and often reach 100 degrees. Dos Palos is about three hours from downtown San Francisco, and five from Los Angeles. Beaches near Santa Cruz and San Luis Obispo are an easy day trip – a two or three hour drive. You can be 8,000 feet in the mountains, or in Yosemite, Sequoia, or Kings Canyon National Park in two to three hours. The gold country, several old Spanish missions, and old-town Sacramento are all convenient day trips. Even Tahoe can be reached in just over four hours. The larger communities of Los Banos and Merced are within half an hour, and Fresno is about an hour's drive. The school system is not award winning, but retains many of the qualities of a small-town community school. There are community football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, competitive shooting, agriculture, and swimming programs for children. It's a nice community, and a nice congregation. We're not without challenges, but both have a lot to offer. If interested, please send a resume & letter of interest addressing your qualifications and preparation for the position to: dospaloschurchofchrist@yahoo.com or P.O. Box 272 Dos Palos, CA 93620 For more information contact any of the following: Paul Pafford (559) 284-1745 Weldon Comer (209) 364-5276 or (209) 201-7729 David Pafford (209) 658-5972 or pafford@netzero.net If you seem like a good fit, expect us in fairly short order to request a recording of a recent sermon (preferably audio and video). We may also attempt to set up an initial interview – in person if you are close enough for that to be convenient, or via Facetime, Skype, or telephone conference if you live further away. Thank you for your prayerful consideration of our position.
