About the Institute

The Glazer Institute was established based on the understanding that as a Christian University, Pepperdine’s students are especially open to discussions of faith and identity, but are often unacquainted with Christianity’s historical and ongoing relationship with Judaism. Through work in the classroom, international opportunities, and co-curricular programs, it continues to expand horizons, challenge stereotypes, and open doors to lives of service, understanding, respect, and faith. The Glazer Institute welcomes new Professor of Jewish Studies, Monica Osborne, and new Program Coordinator, Drew W. Billings

Monica Osborne, Visiting Assistant Professor of Jewish Studies, joins the faculty at Seaver College after teaching Jewish and American fiction at UCLA. Her work in Jewish literary and cultural studies takes an interdisciplinary approach, addressing issues including the ethics of representation, Midrash in a modern context, the Holocaust and other collective tragedies, and, most recently, humor in the context of the Holocaust and 9/11. Read more...

Drew Billings joins the Glazer Institute as a PhD candidate in Religious Studies (McGill University). His research focuses on Judaism and Christianity in the Greco-Roman World and is currently writing his dissertation on the political motivations which led to the eventual separation between Christianity and Judaism into two distinct religious groups. Billings has taught a variety of Religious Studies courses at both McGill University and St. Michael's College. Read more...
