Dare to Imagine
More than likely, you've heard the expression "life's a journey, not a destination." While this is true, it does make sense to plan for what's down the road… It's probably a big part of the reason that you chose to come to Pepperdine- you have an idea of how you want your life to end up.
Explorers and hikers talk about planning for a journey includes "seeing the end of the trail"; the significance of creating a picture of what you want to have happen. Often times, people who lead refer to this as vision, but it may be just as accurate to say that it's imagination. Albert Einstein said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."
But imagination is risky… it means leaving our comfortable lives and finding ways to make those ideas and plans a reality. It's way easier to be comfortable and let things come as they will. Imagination requires action, investment, and hope. To imagine means to dare to find a way to make things happen rather than allowing them to happen to you. Imagination requires stepping out on faith.
As you prepare for where you want to go and who you want to be, we encourage you to both consider the next fifteen years, and to think about what next year might look like. What will your legacy be? How might you have the opportunity to impact someone's life? Who will remember you? How will Pepperdine be different because of you?
If you've been asking these questions, or even if you think you've got some of the answers, we're interested in having you apply to be a part of our educational leadership program. We're looking for students who want to partner with us as we imagine and create a vibrant educational community that allows us to enjoy the shared journey.
If you are ready for the hard task of loving the 2241 neighbors on the Pepperdine campus, join Community Living in serving these people.
Educational Leadership Training Program
The Housing and Community Living Office is pleased to offer Pepperdine students the chance to learn and serve as a part of our Educational Leadership Training Program. As a part of this program, students will be given the chance to develop skills in community development, spiritual formation, budget management, peer counseling, conflict mediation, crisis response, and facility management by modeling servant leadership in Pepperdine's residential communities. Additionally, participants are able to gain self awareness and personal development through mentoring relationships with professional staff and support relationships with fellow student leaders.
