Associated Women for Pepperdine Hosts 2009 Fall Festival
The Associated Women for Pepperdine is hosting its 2009 Fall Festival boutique from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6 at the Tyler Campus Center patio on the Malibu campus of Pepperdine University. The event serves as a fundraiser for the organization, which offers financial assistance and service for the Christian students at Pepperdine University.
This year's event will include "The Jool Guy," who sells vintage costume jewelry; handmade jewelry from Spark Designs; vintage linens and laces from Lake Imports; accessories from Mary Jo's Gifts & Things; candles and spa gifts from PartyLite Candles: jeweled Pepperdine T-shirts from Dynas-Tee, Inc.; and K Krafts' ornately carved wooden boxes.
Also this year, a gold buyer will be on-site offering cash-back for unwanted gold and platinum items, a first-time feature for the Fall Festival. The company, Aurum Strategies, will have representatives who weigh and assess items, and then cut sellers a check on the spot for the total amount agreed upon. They will donate 10 percent of the proceeds to AWP.
Prior to the festival, the AWP will hosts its annual brunch and silent auction. This year's featured guest speaker is Alice Starr, president and CEO of Starr Strategies. She will give a lecture title, "Juggling Work, Family & Faith" at 10 a.m. in the Hahn Fireside Room. Admission is $50 and registration is required at www.pepperdine.edu/awp/fallfestival.htm.
AWP began on June 5, 1958, when more than 300 Christian women from churches all over Southern California met for brunch on the lawn of the original Pepperdine campus in Los Angeles. By the end of the first year, there were 750 members in 18 districts. Within three years the membership numbered more than 2,000 women. Since then, AWP has given more than $4 million in financial assistance to worthy young people, as well as countless hours of dedicated service.
Each year, the AWP debuts a new Christmas ornament designed to "tell a story and capture the spirit of Pepperdine University." The three-dimensional brass collectibles are finished in sparkling 24-karat gold, enhanced with screen-printed coloring. This year's ornament features the Theme Tower, the University's most prominent and beloved landmark, and a beautiful and symbolic beacon of the Christian faith that is the University's foundation and future.
