Dean's Executive Leadership Series Presents Fox Filmed Entertainment CEO James N. Gianopulos

The Graziadio School of Business and Management's Dean's Executive Leadership Series brings leading business practitioners and thought leaders to Pepperdine University. At 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, James N. Gianopulos, Chair and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment, will give a lecture at the 20th Century Fox Studios in West Los Angeles. A reception will precede the lecture. Admission is $30 for guests.  

Fox Filmed Entertainment is a global leader in movie production and distribution, and the parent company of 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, and Fox Music, Inc.  During Gianopulos' tenure, the studio has released a broad range of successful films including such recent hits as Taken, Marley & Me, Night At The Museum, The Simpsons Movie, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Borat, the X-Men series, The Day After Tomorrow, The Devil Wears Prada, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Walk the Line, the Star Wars Trilogy, Live Free or Die Hard, Master and Commander, Minority Report, Moulin Rouge, and many others.

Gianopulos has been involved in the evolution of entertainment and new technologies for more than 25 years, and is considered a leading strategist in the film and media industry. He has served as chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment since 2000, prior to which he was president of 20th Century Fox International. In February 2006, he took on the additional role of CEO, and in March 2009, he was promoted to oversee all of News Corporation's Los Angeles-based creative production divisions, alongside Tom Rothman. They were selected in 2007 by Premiere as the two most powerful people in Hollywood.

In addition to his role at Fox, Gianopulos is a governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, a member of the Board of the Motion Picture & Television Fund, and a trustee of the American Film Institute. He is also involved in a number of civic and philanthropic activities including serving on the National Entertainment Advisory Council for the Anti-Defamation League and The Brady Center. He also has served on honorary committees for The Fulfillment Fund, The City of Hope, and the Multiple Sclerosis Society for which he was the 2001 honoree, The Help Group, which honored him with its Humanitarian Award in 2005, the Alliance for Lupus Research, and others.

Gianopulos attended Boston University (BA, 1973), the Fordham School of Law (Juris Doctor, 1976) and the LLM program at the New York University School of Law. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife Ann and their three daughters.

Registration for this lecture is required. Admission price for alumni and students is $15 and $30 for guests and walk-ins.

The Dean's Executive Leadership Series is held each fall and spring and sponsored by Farmer's Insurance. The series was created in Spring 2004 to help support the Graziadio School of Business and Management’s mission to provide business knowledge that is applied and relevant.
