Pepperdine University Libraries Hosts Salute to Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Historic Speech
Veteran San Francisco author Felix Justice will read Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m. in the Kresge Reading Room of Payson Library, Malibu, in honor of what would have been King’s 83rd birthday. Delivered to over 200,000 civil rights supporters on the mall in Washington, D.C., the speech was ranked the top American speech of the 20th century by a 1999 poll of scholars of public address.
A discussion led by Pepperdine School of Law professor Bernard James will follow, placing the speech in context of its time and how it continues to resonate today.
Justice is an actor and civil rights activist who has toured nationally in "Prophecy of America," his dramatic collage based on King's writings and speeches.
