Bluegrass Duo Dailey & Vincent Perform at Smothers Theatre
Dailey & Vincent, who have risen to the top of their field with a winning combination of high-energy bluegrass, heart-tugging gospel, and unabashed hero-worship of the Statler Brothers, will perform a concert at Smothers Theatre, Malibu, at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16.
A live Dailey & Vincent performance has something for every fan, including exceptional vocals, harmonized with an unexpected range of material, and backing by the skillful musicianship for which bluegrass is famous.
Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent had all the qualifications to develop one of the most entertaining shows taking stages today—so they did. The Dailey & Vincent partnership became one of the most applauded acts in the bluegrass community only a year after it was formed in 2007.
Five years later, they have continued the climb to become one of the most sought-after acts in the genre—an act whose star power has led to performances and collaborations with some of the greatest talents, on some of the biggest stages, exposing their music to hundreds of new fans each week.
Individually, each draws from a musical upbringing, stints with prominent artists, and celebrated recordings. Together, Dailey & Vincent have received over 30 awards and were named Entertainers of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) for three consecutive years.
The band includes Dailey (guitar, bass, vocals), Vincent (mandolin, guitar, bass, vocals), Christian Davis (guitar, vocals), Jeff Parker (mandolin, guitar, vocals), B. J. Cherryholmes (fiddle), and Jessie Baker (banjo, guitar).
Dailey grew up singing and playing with family and regional groups all over middle Tennessee and Kentucky, but gained national attention when he joined Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver in 1998 as lead baritone and tenor vocalist. During Dailey's tenure, the band won 13 IBMA awards—including seven for Vocal Group of the Year, as well as four Grammy and five Dove Award nominations. He has recorded with Dolly Parton, appeared on five Gaither Homecoming DVDs, and was a guest on Ricky Skaggs' Grammy-winning Brand New Strings album. A skilled musician, vocalist, and songwriter, Dailey has dozens of other guest performances and collaborations to his credit.
Vincent started singing at age three and playing music at age six as part of his family's band, the Sally Mountain Show, along with sister Rhonda Vincent. As a member of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for more than 10 years, Vincent won five Grammy awards and eight IBMA awards for Instrumental Group of the Year. He has performance and recording credits with dozens of artists, including Dolly Parton, Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris, Earl Scruggs, Bruce Hornsby, Vince Gill, John Hartford, and many more, as well as producer credits on Grammy-nominated projects with Rhonda Vincent, Susie Luchsinger, the family band Cherryholmes, and Hunter Berry. He is an accomplished musician and vocalist with expert abilities to arrange and create captivating music.
