O Come, All Ye Faithful!: Students Perform Christmas Concert

Students from Pepperdine’s choirs and orchestra will perform the annual Pepperdine Christmas Concert on Thursday, Nov. 29, accompanied by pianist Kevin Fukagawa. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Smothers Theatre, Malibu.

Ryan Board and Tony Cason will direct the concert of seasonal favorites, including the carols In the Bleak Midwinter, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, and O Come, All Ye Faithful!, as well as the holiday classic Jingle Bells.

The Pepperdine Orchestra, Pepperdine Choir, and Women's Chamber Choir will be performing together and separately. The Orchestra, under Cason's direction, performs a range of classical and contemporary repertoire each year providing students the opportunity to perform great orchestral music in a positive environment, while striving for the highest standards of excellence in performance.

The orchestra performs a number of concerts throughout the year, including symphonic concerts, opera and musical theater. Soloists have included renowned faculty performers, as well as outstanding student soloists, chosen through the Thomas M. Osborn Concerto Competition, a rigorous competition held each January.

The Concert Choir is the largest mixed performing group made up of all music majors and/or music award recipients, as well as talented singers from other disciplines throughout the Seaver campus. The Concert Choir performs a variety of literature, which includes the performance of a large masterwork once each year.

The women's chamber choir was created for the purpose of preparing a variety of challenging music for the smaller ensemble. Students are encouraged to develop the technical science of music and vocal production together, advance the science of transforming the composer's intentions into an inspiring art form, and engage the University's mission by sharing the gift of music as a Christian service to society.
