The Pepperdine community will kick off the "most wonderful time of the year" with an evening of festivities on Tuesday, Dec. 3, including a Christmas dinner and tree lighting ceremony.
To kick-start the Yuletide events, Mr. and Mrs. Claus will visit Waves Café during the annual Christmas dinner at 4:30 p.m.
At 6 p.m. in Joslyn Plaza, the University community will come together for the fifth annual Christmas tree lighting, which will feature festive music, hot cocoa, apple cider, and Christmas treats. The event will be hosted by Tabatha Jones-Jolivet, Seaver College associate dean for student affairs, who will lead the festivities. Three spoken-word pieces will be read by Seaver students, and tunes will be provided by the Celebration Chapel band, as well as the Genesis Gospel Choir and the Pepperdine Pickups, Pepperdine's only all-male a cappella singing group. Michael Shires, associate professor of public policy at the School of Public Policy, will invigorate the crowd with a scripture reading. A candle-lighting ceremony will immediately follow the Christmas tree lighting.
In addition, the Student Programming Board will host Winter Wonderland on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Joslyn Plaza, which will be transformed into an ice skating rink. Student performers will entertain the crowd with seasonal live music.
