Pepperdine’s Graziadio School of Business and Management will host its 2013 Winter Graduation on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Firestone Fieldhouse, Malibu.
This year's commencement features speakers Zack Hicks (BSM '97), chief information officer of Toyota North America and group vice president for Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc.; Stevan Calvillo, attorney at law; and student Margaret Stonestreet.
Hicks is responsible for the strategy, development, and operations of all systems and technology that support Toyota's North American business goals. Hicks is focused on aligning the efforts of business operations, strategic planning and technology to drive business innovation and efficiency. Since joining Toyota in 1996, Hicks has managed several areas within the company, including telematics, eBusiness, dealer systems, and information systems. He led the development of next-generation dealership technology and designed a CIO Magazine award-winning information systems strategy framework to align business and IT strategies. Hicks also served as vice president of administrative services. He previously spent 10 years with United Airlines working on retail automation and online reservation systems. Hicks earned his Bachelor of Science in Management from the Graziadio School and his MBA from UC Irvine.
Calvillo is the current chair of the Board of Visitors of the Graziadio School of Business and Management, an attorney, and principal of his law firm Calvillo & Meyer, LLP, in Redondo Beach, Calif. He has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1975, as well as the Los Angeles Bar Association. In his practice as a trial lawyer, Calvillo has represented real estate developers, franchisors, banks, and many others. In his practice he has tried and arbitrated more than 200 cases and successfully argued cases on appeal, both in the California appellate court system and before the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Calvillo is also admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court.
Calvilllo has served as a Los Angeles Superior Court judge pro-tem for settlement in Long Beach, California, as an arbitrator for the Long Beach Bar Association in attorney-client fees disputes, and as a court-appointed mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court.
He is a longtime member of the Graziadio School Board of Visitors and has served continuously as chairperson since 2009. Established in 1996, the Board of Visitors has provided a link between the Graziadio School and business, comprising business and industry leaders who provide valuable advice and resources to the school. Calvillo also serves on the board for the Torrance Memorial Health Care Foundation.
Calvillo received his bachelor of arts degrees in both political science and history from San Diego State University. He received his juris doctorate from Western State College of Law (now Thomas Jefferson School of Law) in San Diego, California.
Stonestreet is a Fully Employed MBA student in the Santa Barbara cohort. She completed her undergraduate degree at UCSB and works as a Starbucks store manager. Stonestreet, who has a passion for yoga and modern dance, supports the Santa Barbara community though organizations such as the Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity. She was recently honored with the Outstanding FEMBA Student Award for excellence in academics and leadership in the classroom. Stonestreet has accepted a position in the global store development department at Starbucks' corporate headquarters.
