Jeanne Murray Walker, poet, playwright, and teacher, will read from her new memoir, The Geography of Memory: A Pilgrimage Through Alzheimer’s, as well as selections from her poetry, when she appears at Payson Library on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 4 p.m.
The Geography of Memory tells the story of Walker's mother's life with dementia, and the light her remaining memories shed on who Walker herself is.
Walker is the author of seven books of poetry and numerous plays. Her poetry and essays have appeared numerous journals, including Poetry, The Atlantic Monthly, Christian Century, The American Poetry Review, The Georgia Review, Image, and Best American Poetry.
Walker is a collaborating editor with Darryl Tippens of Shadow and Light: Literature and the Life of Faith, an historical anthology of literature. Image magazine called it the current "stand-out, single-volume" on the subject of spiritual questing. Walker's new and selected poems will be published in 2014 by Word Farm Press.
Jeanne is a professor of english at the University of Delaware, where she heads the creative writing concentration.
