Liam McGee, chairman, president, and CEO of the Hartford Financial Services Group will discuss his career at the Graziadio School of Business and Management's Dean's Executive Leadership Series Thursday, Mar. 13, at 5:30 p.m. on the Drescher Graduate Campus, Malibu.
Since joining The Hartford, a leader in property and casualty insurance, group benefits, and mutual funds, in 2009, McGee has led a turnaround and strategic transformation of the company with the goal of generating a superior shareholder return. The company has made significant progress executing its strategy to build greater financial strength and flexibility, focus and profitably grow its business portfolio, and reduce the size and risk of variable annuity exposure. As a result, The Hartford is sharply focused and positioned for profitable growth and continuous improvement, with a significantly reduced risk profile.
McGee has taken an active leadership role in the Asylum Hill community where The Hartford is headquartered. In 2010, the company announced a five-year investment in the local neighborhood to revitalize underserved areas, including support for education and improvements in public safety.
Before joining The Hartford, McGee spent more than three decades as a business leader, most recently serving as president of the Consumer and Small Business Bank for Bank of America Corporation. Prior to joining Bank of America in 1990, he held several senior positions at Wells Fargo.
A native of County Donegal, Ireland, McGee grew up in Southern California and speaks Spanish fluently. He earned a BA from the University of San Diego, an MBA from Pepperdine University, and a JD from Loyola Law School.
