A screening of The Cuban Dream, a documentary that follows Seaver and School of Public Policy alumnus Luke Salas ('07, MPP '10) on his journey to become the first Cuban-American to play in Cuba’s system of baseball since 1961, will take place Friday, Mar. 28, at 7:30pm in Elkins Auditorium, Malibu. A Q&A with the filmmakers, including Salas' brothers Scott and Jacob, as well as Chelsea Corbett, all Pepperdine alumni, will follow the screening. Attendees are also invited to a dessert reception in the fountain plaza following the screening.
In 2012 Salas, a former starter on the Waves baseball team and professional player in the Texas Rangers organization, set out to become the first Cuban-American to play in Cuba's system of baseball since 1961. Through his education at the School of Public Policy, Salas recognized that while pursuing his love for the game in Cuba, baseball could be used as a way to not only unite his family, but also the people of the USA and Cuba.
Salas' journey to play baseball in Cuba becomes a testimony of how powerful people to people connection can be, while showing the reality and limitations of Cuba through the lens of baseball.
