Rebecca Golbert

Rebecca Golbert

Visiting Assistant Professor of Jewish Studies, Seaver College

Rebecca Golbert has lived all over the world, so it makes sense that she will be exploring global Jewish culture in her new role at Pepperdine. "I'm particularly excited about one course because it draws on my particular interest and training in the anthropology and ethnography of Jewish life and Jewish cultures all over the world," she says.

Golbert is a graduate of three prestigious universities: Princeton (BA, magna cum laude in anthropology, '93), Pepperdine University School of Law (master of dispute resolution, '07), and Oxford (master's certificate, '95; Ph.D., '01). She is also currently the executive secretary for the LA Center for International Conciliation and Arbitration, as well as a pro bono mediator for the ADR Civil Mediation Panel and ADR Civil Harassment Mediation Panel, and an ad hoc advisor to the Middle East Inter-Group Task Force at the City of Los Angeles Human Relations Commission.

We ask: As a member of the international languages department, where is your favorite place to travel to internationally?
"I got the travel bug early on from my parents who had lived abroad before I was born. After college, I lived in China, the U.K., and Ukraine, and while I did my graduate work in the U.K. I traveled around Europe. Greece, Italy, and France were probably my favorite places to travel for vacation. Since I moved back to the U.S., my travel has been much more localized! We did fall in love with Oregon when we traveled there last summer."
