Cynthia Colburn has participated in archaeological excavations in Italy, Greece, and Turkey, and is proficient in the Italian, French, German, and modern Greek languages. She has been honored with several grants and fellowships including the Harriet and Leon Pomerance Fellowship from the Archaeological Institute of America and the Packard Humanities Institute Fellowship from the American Academy of Rome.

Colburn teaches courses on the history of western, ancient, classical, early Christian, Medieval,and Renaissance art. She received her doctorate in art history from the University of California, Los Angeles, and is a member of the Archaeological Institute of America, American Schools of Oriental Research, and Art Historians of Southern California.
