John Fitzpatrick has been in education for more than 34 years, during which time he has served as a teacher, high school principal, director of secondary schools, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, and superintendent of various districts.

Fitzpatrick is the president and chair of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), K-University. He is also a member and former chairman of the WASC Commission. Fitzpatrick was one of four California superintendents recently elected to the American Association of Schools Administrators Board of Directors. Fitzpatrick also chairs the Graduate School of Education and Psychology's Superintendent Advisory Council.

J.L. Fortson has extensive experience working with students at the K-12 level, as well as the master's and doctoral levels. Her research and writing interests include the pedagogy of instruction, urban curriculum development, multicultural education, and educational legislation and litigation. Fortson is recognized at the state and national levels as an expert in the field of professional educator preparation.

At the state level, Fortson remains an active member of the Committee on Accreditation's Board of Institutional Reviewers for the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. At the national level, she was the only higher education professional to be recognized and appointed to work with the U. S. Department of Education as an expert in urban education under both the Clinton and Bush administrations. As part of her service she was a member of the Teacher Assistance Corps, traveling to meet with state officials to provide clarity regarding the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001, as well as to offer guidance, on-site reviews and feedback to states' efforts to implement NCLB.

Fortson has been quoted as an expert in several publications including the Chronicle of Higher Education, Southwest Spirit magazine, Education.com and the Atlantic Journal.
