National Public Radio (NPR), Sept. 1, 2004 – Seaver senior, Paris Dennard, was profiled on “The Tavis Smiley Show” as a delegate for the Republican National Convention. In the introduction, the host stated of Dennard that the Republican party “might be looking to [him] for decades.”
Washington Post, Sept. 3, 2004 – Seaver senior, Paris Dennard, was mentioned in an article titled, "Citizen Diddy" about how he has worked with rapper and designer Sean J. Combs or "P. Diddy" in the upcoming election encouraging young people to vote. Dennard traveled to a Harlem community center with Diddy and an MTV film crew to speak to young people about the issues in the upcoming election.
Golf Week, Sept. 4, 2004 – Men’s golf team standout and All-American, Michael Putnam, was profiled in an article of Golf Week’s preseason polls. Putnam was ranked No. 9 and a first team All-American. Pepperdine was included on the front cover cartoon graphic of the magazine as well.
Journal Sentinel, Sept. 5, 2004 – Alumnus, Gerald H. Boyle, was featured in an article titled, “Battle-Hardened Boyle Tackles Tough Race in 4th District” about the challenges he faces as he runs for the upcoming Fourth Congressional District race in Wisconsin.
The Patriot Ledger, Sept. 6, 2004 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled, “Experts say Parishioners' Lawsuit is Bound to Fail” about the legal rights of a church bishop to close a church.
ABC, Sept. 9, 2004 – Recent graduate, Kristin Rose, was a contestant on the Sept. 10 episode of Wheel of Fortune. The show airs on ABC at 7:30 p.m. in the Los Angeles area.
Los Angeles Times, Sept. 11, 2004 – Robert Fulmer, distinguished visiting professor for the Graziadio School of Business Management was quoted in an article titled, “A Question of Succession” about Walt Disney’s CEO, Michael Eisner’s announcement to retire after his contract ends in September of 2006. Fulmer stated the challenges the company will face after the recent slump the organization has experienced.
KTTV, KNBC, KCBS, KNX Radio, KPCC, Los Angeles Times, & Ventura County Star, Sept. 13, 2004 – The formal investiture ceremony of School of Law Dean, Kenneth Starr, was covered by multiple media outlets.
Scripps Howard News Service (article appeared in several daily newspapers), Sept. 14, 2004 – David Davenport, distinguished professor of public policy and law, wrote an op-ed titled, “The Campaign Disconnect” about how the candidates for the upcoming election have focused a majority of their attention on the electoral vote and have failed to raise enthusiasm amongst voters.
ABC, Sept. 15, 2004 – Pepperdine student, Craig Ries, was a guest on Wheel of Fortune. The show aired at 7:30 on ABC in the Los Angeles area.
KNX 1070, Sept. 15, 2004 – Carol Chase, professor of law, was interviewed on Business Hour about Martha Stewart’s decision to forgo the federal appeals process and accept her prison sentence.
Los Angeles Times, Sept. 17, 2004 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article about a legal case involving a high school student exercising free speech and respecting the rights of others. Kmiec stated that school districts have been given authority to restrict freedom of speech in order to avoid disruption.
Los Angeles Times, Sept. 22, 2004 – Robert Fulmer, distinguished visiting professor at the Graziadio School of Business Management, was quoted in an article titled, “Disney Board Presses CEO Hunt” about how current CEO, Michael Eisner will likely step down as soon as a replacement is found. Eisner previously announced that he would not renew his contract which expires in 2006, but that he would complete his term.
San Francisco Chronicle, Sept. 23, 2004 – David Davenport, distinguished professor of public policy, and Gordon Lloyd, professor of public policy, co-wrote an op-ed titled, “Who’s Afraid of the Electoral College?” about the recent discussion about the electoral college and its effect on the election.
USA Today, Sept. 29, 2004 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled, “Tribunal Struggles with First Hearings” about the challenges that have surfaced in the hearings of four defendants faced with war crimes charges and detainment at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base.
