Los Angeles Daily News, Feb. 2, 2005 – Lee Kats, Associate Provost for Research and Frank R. Seaver Chair of Biology, wrote an op-ed article titled, “Upside to Downpours is the Sound of 'Ribbit'” about how the recent rains have positively affected the amphibian population in Southern California.
CNN, Feb. 3, 2005 – Colleen Graffy, associate professor of law and Academic Director of the London Law Program, was a guest commentator speaking about President Bush’s State of the Union Address.
BBC Radio Scotland and ITN – Colleen Graffy, associate professor of law and Academic Director of the London Law Program, was on Europe’s BBC radio and ITN television providing analysis of the State of the Union Address and prospects for relations with the European Union during President Bush's second term.
Washington Post, Feb. 4, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Gonzalez Clears a Divided Senate” about the U.S. Senate confirming Alberto Gonzalez as U.S. Attorney General.
Associated Press, Feb. 5, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Scalia Not Discouraging Chief Justice Talk” about the possibility of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia succeeding Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist who is ailing with cancer.
Newsweek, Feb. 7, 2005 – Edward Larson, Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law, was quoted in an article titled, “Doubting Darwin,” about the continuing struggle teachers have regarding religion and Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. Professor Larson is considered the leading historian of the Scopes trial, in which a high school teacher was convicted for violating a Tennessee law against teaching evolution.
Associated Press, Feb. 8, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Chertoff Court Opinions Shed Light on Immigration Policy” about the nomination of Michael Chertoff to head the Homeland Security Department.
The Miami Herald, Feb. 10, 2005 – Ken Starr, Dean of the School of Law, was mentioned in an article titled, “High Court to Settle Wine Battle” about a case before the U.S. Supreme Court questioning whether wine can be purchased over the internet or 1-800 numbers and then shipped to buyers across the country. Dean Starr is representing the shipping companies in this lawsuit.
Associated Press, Feb. 13, 2005 – Dennis Lowe, Graduate School of Education and Psychology professor and founding director of the Center for the Family, is quoted in an article entitled, “Colleges Offering Classes on Relationships” about the increase in college courses on love, relationships and marriage.
San Francisco Chronicle, Feb. 12, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Debate on Marriage at Hastings Law School Legal Scholars Split on Underlying Issues of Parenting, Privacy” about the upcoming ruling by a San Francisco Superior Court judge over the definition of marriage. Same-sex couples and the city of San Francisco are challenging the California law that defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
Find Law, Feb. 11, 2005 – Ken Starr, Dean of the School of Law, was mentioned in an article titled “How the Bush Administration is Flouting the Current Special Counsel Regulations, and why the Independent Counsel Law may not Have Been Such a bad Idea After all.” The article was written by John W. Dean who joined Dean Starr to debate the importance of independent counsel last week at Pepperdine’s School of Law. The debate will be featured on National Public Radio's "Justice Talking" program later this month.
The Malibu Times, Feb. 15, 2005 – Ken Starr, Dean of the School of Law, was featured in an article titled, “Special Prosecutors: 'An Impossible job'” about the debate held at the School of Law on Feb. 9 between Dean Starr and John Dean, former counsel to Richard Nixon during the Watergate scandal, about the role of special prosecutors in government trials. The debate was hosted by National Public Radio’s "Justice Talking" series.
Glendale News-Press, Feb. 18, 2005 – Samuel Levine, professor at the School of Law, was quoted in an article titled “Police: Train Crash Caused by Stunt, not Suicide try” about new evidence in the trial of a man who left his vehicle on railroad tracks, causing a train wreck that killed 11 people.
ITV Television, Feb. 19, 2005 – Colleen Graffy, associate professor of law and Academic Director of the London Law Program, was interviewed with the former British Ambassador to Libya about President Bush's plans for democracy in the Middle East.
San Francisco Chronicle, Feb. 20, 2005 – Gary Galles, professor of economics, wrote an op-ed article entitled “In Word and Action” remembering America’s first “Man of Action” George Washington for President’s Day.
Casper Star Tribune, Feb. 21, 2005 – Ken Starr, Dean of the School of Law, was featured in an article titled “Starr: Lawyers to Blame” about his speech at a Wyoming Law Review symposium on professional ethics.
SKY TV, Feb. 21, 2005 – Colleen Graffy, associate professor of law and Academic Director of the London Law Program, was interviewed by the European television network about President Bush's visit to Europe and trans-Atlantic relations.
Press Telegram, Feb. 23, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was also quoted in an article titled "Race Ruling may Affect Jails" about the same Supreme Court decision.
Newsday, Feb. 23, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled "How Eminent is a City's Domain?" about whether or not city governments can legally seize private homes if it’s crucial to the city's development plan.
Los Angeles Daily News, Feb. 24, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled "County Jails OK for now" about the Supreme Court's decision that prisons can not racially segregate inmates.

Associated Press, Feb. 25, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Procreation Center of Gay Marriage Debate” about groups who oppose same-sex marriage arguing that the fundamental right to marry has always been about procreation.
