Teen Ink.com, Sept. 2005 – Michael Flores, a junior advertising major, had his review of Pepperdine University published in Teen Ink, a monthly print magazine, Web site and book series written by teens for teens. His article was an assignment in Dr. Ginger Rosenkrans’ advertising class in which students were required to write an article in the area of advertising and submit it to a publication for consideration.

KTTV Fox 11, Sep. 3. 2005 – School of Law Dean, Ken Starr, was featured on the local news station in a segment about the late Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist. He was also featured in a similar segment on Fox shown on Sep. 4, 2005.

Orange County Register, Sep. 4, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, wrote an op–ed article titled “John Roberts' Judgment Day” about Judge John Robert’s confirmation hearings to succeed Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court.

San Francisco Chronicle, Sep. 4, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Conservative Jurist Helped Steer High Court on Path to the Right” about the death and legacy of Supreme Court Chief Justice Rehnquist.

National Public Radio, Sep. 5, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was interviewed on the radio news program "All Things Considered" about President Bush’s nomination of John Roberts to chief justice of the Supreme Court.

Baltimore Sun, Sep. 5, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Two Vacancies May Greatly Alter Court” about the profound impact the death of Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist is expected to have on the administration and decision making of the Supreme Court.

San Francisco Chronicle, Sep. 5, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “The Supreme Court In Transition: The Effect on the Court's Docket if Only Eight Justices Sit, Tie Votes Could Leave Issues Unresolved” about the potential impact the two vacancies on the Supreme Court when the court begins its term in October.

Bloomberg.com, Sep. 6, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Bush Likely to Choose a Woman or Minority for Court” about who President Bush will nominate to the Supreme Court.

Los Angeles Times, Sep. 6, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Roberts Tapped for Chief Justice” about President Bush’s nomination of Judge John G. Roberts Jr., to be the nation's 17th chief justice of the United States’ Supreme Court, following the death of William H. Rehnquist. The President had originally nominated Roberts in July to succeed Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

Newsday, Sep. 6, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Roberts Called on as Chief” about President Bush’s nomination of Judge John Roberts to chief justice of the Supreme Court.

Salem Radio, Sep. 6, 2005 – David Davenport, distinguished professor of public policy, was a guest on the nationally syndicated Albert Mohler Radio Program, to discuss the Supreme Court nomination process.

Adelphia’s Week in Review, Sep. 7, 2005 – Michael Shires, assistant professor at the School of Public Policy, appeared on the cable channel’s hour–long public affairs show to speak about California’s public policy and the failure of Governor Schwarzenegger and the Democrats to reach a compromise on the upcoming ballot initiatives.

Los Angeles Daily News, Sep. 8, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “High Court Ruling Renews Hopes of Bringing Back Seal” about how the Supreme Court ruling to uphold an outdoor Ten Commandments plaque in Texas could help Los Angeles County oppose an ACLU request to remove the cross from the county seal.

Ventura County Star, Sep. 8, 2005 – Michael Shires, assistant professor at the School of Public Policy, was quoted in an article titled “Governor Will Veto Bill on Gay Marriages” about how California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, vowed to veto a bill allowing same–sex marriage since voters overwhelmingly passed Proposition 22, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

Voice of America, Sep. 11, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Roberts Confirmation Hearings Begin Monday” about the Senate confirmation hearings to determine whether John Roberts will become the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Court TV, Sep. 12, 2005 – School of Law Dean, Ken Starr, appeared daily as a network commentator about the Senate Judiciary Committee proceedings regarding John Roberts Jr.'s nomination to be chief justice of the Supreme Court.

PBS, Sep. 12, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, appeared on The News Hour with Jim Lehrer to discuss the first day of John Roberts’ hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee to see if he should become the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

MTV.com, Sep. 13, 2005 – Robert deMayo, associate dean of psychology at the Graduate School of Education and Psychology, was quoted in an article titled, "'College Transition' Taking On New Meaning For Displaced Students" about college students facing changes and depression brought on by the hurricane.

89.3 KPCC, Sep. 13, 2005 – Robert Kaufman, professor of public policy at the School of Public Policy, was interviewed on the public radio station about Chief Justice nominee John Roberts' first day of testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

New York Times, Sep. 16, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Chief Justice Nominee Speaks Volumes, While Saying Little” about Judge John G. Roberts’s Senate Confirmation Hearing to determine if he will be appointed Chief justice of the Supreme Court.

Los Angeles Times, Sep. 16, 2005 – Professor Kmiec was quoted in an article titled “Roberts Vote is a Dilemma for Dems” about whether or not the democrats will support the nomination of Judge John Roberts as Supreme Court chief justice.

Los Angeles Times, Sep. 16, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Democrats Consider a Voting Strategy” about the conclusion of the congressional hearings for chief justice nominee John G. Roberts Jr.

KCAL Channel 9, Sept. 16, 2005 – Karen Martin, Frank R. Seaver Chair of Biology for the Natural Science Division, was interviewed about the recent high tides off the Pacific coast. Professor Martin was also quoted in the July edition of the Surfrider Foundation’s magazine, Making Waves, about her work with grunion on Broad Beach in Malibu.

San Francisco Chronicle, Sep. 21, 2005 – David Davenport, distinguished professor of public policy, wrote an op–ed article titled “U.N. Reformers Ask the Wrong Question,” about last week’s meeting of world leaders at the United Nations to discuss possible reforms to the institution.

Los Angeles Times, Sept. 21, 2005 – Roy Adler, professor of marketing, was quoted in an article titled, “Six–Figure Makeovers for Luxury Cars That Aren't Enough” about Fisker Coachbuild, a company that turns luxury Mercedes–Benz or BMW vehicles into limited–edition luxury–performance models.

Orange County Register, Sept. 21, 2005 – Gary Galles, professor of economics, wrote an op–ed article titled “Recasting a PC Alphabet Book” about how the educational system is being affected by a requirement for teachers to be politically correct.

KABC Channel 7, Sept. 22, 2005 – Robert deMayo, associate dean of psychology at the Graduate School of Education and Psychology, was interviewed about the psychology behind using technology in airplanes in light of the emergency landing of a Jet Blue aircraft at Los Angeles International Airport this week.

National Law Journal, Sept. 22, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled, “Burning Issues Await High Court in New Term” about controversial decisions facing the Supreme Court when it begins its term in October.

Arbroath Herald, Sept. 23, 2005 – Karen Martin, Frank R. Seaver Chair of Biology for the Natural Science Division, was featured in the Scottish daily newspaper about her studies about grunion.

Washington Times, Sept. 24, 2005 – James Wilburn, dean of the School of Public Policy, wrote an op–ed article titled “Disaster and the Civil Society” about how religious congregations responded to the needs of the people and areas affected by Hurricane Katrina.

The National Law Journal, Sept. 26, 2005 – Douglas Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law, was quoted in an article titled “Diversity Pool for High Court Justices Too Shallow?” which speculated who President Bush would nominate to replace Sandra Day O’Conner as a Supreme Court Justice.

Malibu Times, Sept. 29, 2005 – Karen Martin, Frank R. Seaver Chair of Biology for the Natural Science Division, was quoted in an article titled “Red Tide Fades Away” about the red tides that have hugged the Malibu coast during summer. 

KGO 810 AM, Sept. 29, 2005 – David Davenport, distinguished professor of public policy, was interviewed by the San Francisco radio station on the shape of the new Supreme Court.

KFWB 980, Sept. 30, 2005 – David Davenport, distinguished professor of public policy, was interviewed by the Los Angeles radio station about the Supreme Court’s new term.
