Pepperdine Hosts First, Second Round of NCAA Tennis Championships

May 4, 2006 - Both the nationally-ranked Pepperdine men's and women's tennis teams were named to the 2006 NCAA Tennis Championships and will host a four-team regional at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif.

The No. 13-seed Pepperdine women (20-3) will take on Wichita State (17-7), kicking off first-round action at noon on Friday, May 12. Also facing off in the first round that day will be UCLA (13-6) and San Diego State (16-8) in a 3 p.m. match. The winners of each match will meet in the second round on Saturday, May 13 at 3 p.m.

The second-seed Pepperdine men (30-2) face Montana State (15-11) on Saturday at 9 a.m., while San Diego (15-6) takes on TCU (17-9) in a 3 p.m. match that day. The second-round match is scheduled for Sunday, May 14 at 1 p.m.

Teams that advance will go to the round of 16 hosted by Stanford University. The women's round of 16 kicks off on Thursday, May 18, while the men begin play on Saturday, May 20. This is the first National Tennis Championship in NCAA history that both the men's and women's teams will compete simultaneously at the same site.
