Adam Steinberg Named ITA West Region Men's Tennis Coach of the Year 

May 22, 2006 - Pepperdine University men's tennis head coach Adam Steinberg was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West Region Men's Tennis Coach of the Year, the organization announced on Monday. Steinberg, who is in his fourth year with the Waves, becomes a finalist for the national award, which will be announced on May 22. 

Steinberg, a New York native, led the team to a No. 2 national ranking and has remained at the spot for 13 weeks as the Waves head into the NCAA Round of 16 at Stanford this weekend. Pepperdine, which captured its 16th straight West Coast Conference title, holds a 32-2 current record, which marks the best record in Steinberg's 14 years as a head coach.

"Adam Steinberg has done an amazing job with the men's tennis program," said Pepperdine Athletic Director John Watson. "He is building a successful program, while developing young men with strong character. His recognition as the West Region Coach of the Year is well deserved and we are extremely proud of the leadership he's providing."

Senior Scott Doerner was also recognized by the ITA as he was awarded the John Van Nostrand Memorial Award, which is given to an outstanding senior who plans to pursue a professional career after college. The eighth-ranked Melbourne, Australia native has played at the No. 1 singles position all season, going 21-6, including a 9-6 record against nationally-ranked opponents.
