Pepperdine Women's Basketball Team Hosted Time Out for HIV/AIDS Classic

Pepperdine women's basketball team hosted the inaugural Time Out for HIV/AIDS Classic four-game tournament, Nov. 17 and Nov. 18, with the hope of raising money and awareness of HIV/AIDS through the entertainment of quality women's basketball. The Time Out for HIV/AIDS Classic was an opportunity for the University and the local community to learn more and give more to fighting the disease.
Pepperdine welcomed three top collegiate women’s basketball teams for the event: University of Florida, University of California at Berkeley, and Rutgers University. The Time Out for HIV/AIDS Classic tipped-off on Nov. 17, with Cal facing Florida followed by the Pepperdine vs. Rutgers game. The tournament concluded Nov. 18 with the four teams competing for final placement.
Half of the proceeds from this event will go to the fight against HIV/AIDS in the United States. Sparrow Village Project, a Hospice in South Africa, will receive the other half. In addition to providing education on HIV/AIDS, Sparrow Village provides a loving place for children dying from HIV/AIDS and other diseases to receive medical care, education and personal warmth as they live their last days.
The event featured special silent auction items from Carlos Santana and others. Olympian Carl Lewis was also in attendance.
