Pepperdine Women and Men's Golf Teams Sweep WCC Championships

Golfer Misun Cho was named Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year while head coach Laurie Gibbs was tabbed Coach of the Year after the fourth-ranked Pepperdine women's golf team captured the West Coast Conference (WCC) Championships on Apr. 17 at the La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, Calif.

The women's victory marked the sixth straight conference crown and ninth in the last 10 years for the Waves, who registered a convincing 21-shot victory over San Francisco. The Waves totaled a 45-over par score of 909 while the Dons finished at 66-over par 930.

The Waves men, who also finished play on Apr. 17 in Lompoc, captured the WCC crown for the 16th time and eighth time in the last nine years after finishing fifth in 2006. Pepperdine shot a final-round 10-over par 298 to finish the 54-hole event with a 29-over par total of 893 and register a five-shot victory over San Diego (898).

The women's team will be idle until May 10 when it opens NCAA Regional play. The NCAA Championships are slated for May 22 through 25 at the LPGA International Golf Club in Daytona Beach, Fla. The men will idle until NCAA Regional play opens on May 17. The NCAA Championships will be held May 30 through June 2 at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club's Golf Course in Williamsburg, Va.
