New Age Pianist Jim Brickman Performs

Jim Brickman

The Pepperdine University Center for the Arts presents popular New Age pianist Jim Brickman in a concert on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 8 p.m. in Smothers Theatre on the Malibu campus. Brickman revolutionized the sound of adult contemporary music with his pop-style solo piano and the romantic popular song.

Brickman's remarkable career includes six Gold and Platinum albums, three No. 1 and 12 Top-10 adult contemporary radio hits, consistent debuts at No. 1 on Billboard's New Age chart, a Grammy nomination in 2003, SESAC "Songwriter of the Year" award, a Canadian Country Music Award for "Best Vocal/Instrumental Collaboration," and a Dove Award presented by the Gospel Music Association for The Gift.

Brickman's latest album, Escape, features a variety of instrumental compositions and range of musical greats from late R&B superstar Gerald Levert (who attended the same high school in Cleveland as Brickman) and country vocalist Sara Evans (the Academy of Country Music's "Female Vocalist of the Year" for 2006). Other guest artists include jazz guitarist Marc Antoine, the 2006 Star Search winner Jake Simpson, vocalist Geoff Byrd (who has been touring with Hall and Oates), and gifted violinist David Klinkenberg.

Along with his career highlights, Brickman's best-known compositions include the chart-toppers "Valentine," "The Gift," "Love of My Life," and "Peace." In November 2005 he held the top three spots on Billboard's New Age chart for his albums The Disney Songbook, Grace, and Greatest Hits.

Tickets, priced at $50 for the public, $45 for Pepperdine faculty and staff, and $10 for full-time Pepperdine students, are available now by calling (310) 506-4522. Tickets are also available through Ticketmaster at (213) 365-3500.
