Waves Tennis Advances to NCAA Championships Play

Both the Pepperdine men and women's tennis teams earned automatic bids into the team NCAA Team Championships after winning their respective West Coast Conference (WCC) Championships.
The Pepperdine men will begin defense of their 2006 national title on Friday, May 11, when they face Penn State in a first round match at Marks Tennis Stadium on the USC campus beginning at 1 p.m.
The Pepperdine women travel to Fresno State where they will take on Long Beach State in an opening round match on Saturday, May 12, at 10 a.m.
Three Pepperdine individuals and one doubles team were selected to compete in the 2007 Division I NCAA Tennis Championships. Junior Andre Begemann and freshman Bassam Beidas will compete on the men's side while junior Sylvia Kosakowski was selected as one of 64 individuals to take part in the women's tournament.
Junior Bianca Dulgheru was chosen as an alternate for singles and will compete with Kosakowski as one of 32 doubles team.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted from Wednesday, May 23, through Monday, May 28, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, hosted by the University of Georgia. The competition will follow the conclusion of the team championship, which takes place from Thursday, May 17, through Tuesday, May 22.
Both Begemann and Kosakowski were automatic qualifiers into the tournament, while Beidas was an at-large selection. Dulgheru and Kosakowski were automatic qualifiers in women's doubles.
