Pepperdine Crest Advisory Board Hosts Community Outreach Event

Pepperdine University's Malibu Campus

The Pepperdine University Crest Advisory Board and the Center for the Arts welcome members of the local and Pepperdine communities to visit the Malibu campus for a variety of special activities on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art. The afternoon offers something for everyone and is free of charge.

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear from Weisman Museum director Dr. Michael Zakian as he guides tours of the current exhibit, Made in California. The art on display represents a number of exciting and diverse movements that played a decisive role in defining the visual arts in the Golden State. This selection of works by California artists, chosen to mark the 15th anniversary of the Weisman Museum at Pepperdine, celebrates the state's creative vision.

In conjunction with the exhibit, families and children are invited to explore their artistic sides at the Children’s Art Corner, giving youths an art experience of their own. Visitors are encouraged to stay for the reception to enjoy complementary hors d’oeuvres and live musical entertainment featuring members of the Pepperdine Jazz Band and Parkening Guitar Scholars.

About the event, Eileen Bice, Crest Board member and Outreach Committee Chair, said, "Guests will have the opportunity to meet the welcoming members of the Pepperdine community and enjoy a few of the University's attractions on this fun and informative day."

As a special treat, the John Mazza Collection of surfboards spanning nearly 100 years will be on display in the nearby Library Loft located in the Payson Library. The superb collection was installed for the Reel Sessions Surf Film Festival benefiting Payson Library last spring.

Please RSVP for the event by calling (310) 506-4745.
