Graziadio School of Business and Management Celebrates 2008 Graduation

The Graziadio School of Business and Management will honor its graduating students at a commencement ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 10:30 a.m. in Firestone Fieldhouse on the Malibu campus. Melodie Mayberry-Stewart (MBA '83), chief information officer and director of the Office for Technology for the State of New York, will deliver the keynote address and be recognized as the Distinguished Alumnus.

About Melodie Mayberry-Stewart

Melodie Mayberry-Stewart is chief information officer and director of the Office for Technology for the State of New York. Appointed to this position in May 2007 by the governor of New York, Mayberry-Stewart serves as a member of the governor's cabinet with responsibility for overseeing information technology (IT) investments for the state government, a $120 billion enterprise employing 190,000 and serving a population of 19 million. She works with local and federal governments to deliver state services to citizens, businesses, and visitors through technology.

Prior to her tenure as New York State CIO, Mayberry-Stewart had been appointed CIO and chief technology officer to the City of Cleveland, where she was charged with creating citywide IT and telecommunications vision and strategy. Previous to that she served in numerous CIO and IT managerial positions at the Amoco and IBM corporations, and within the health care industry.

As New York's primary ambassador for the promotion of innovative use of technology to drive economic progress, Dr. Mayberry-Stewart serves actively on several boards of corporations and industry groups such as the Harriman Research and Technology Development Corporation and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Center for Computational Nanotechnology Innovation.

Mayberry-Stewart is an active participant in the nonprofit community. She currently serves as president and chair of the foundation supporting the Pine Forge Academy in Pennsylvania. She has also served on the boards of the Girls Scouts and various health care and educational institutions.

Mayberry-Stewart earned her B.S. in sociology and administration from Union College, her M.A. in sociological research, and A.B.D. in sociology from the University of Nebraska. She received her MBA from Pepperdine University in 1983, and both her M.A. in executive management and Ph.D. in information systems management from Claremont Graduate University.

Melodie Mayberry-Stewart resides in Albany, New York.
