Seaver College Students Give Annual Songfest Performance

Pepperdine will present its 35th annual Songfest from Tuesday, March 18, through Saturday, March 22, at 8 p.m. on the University's Malibu campus. Drawing inspiration from this year's theme "Stay Tuned!" each of the Songfest groups will perform creative interpretations of television show genres.

Created in 1973, Songfest is one of Pepperdine's greatest and most unique traditions shared by students, alumni, and the greater Pepperdine family. Originally titled "Spring Sing" and held in the cafeteria of the Los Angeles campus, the program eventually changed its name to Songfest and is now presented in Pepperdine¹s Smothers Theatre.

This musical variety show features a cast of nearly 300 students and a live orchestra, but more importantly, provides an opportunity for students to establish wonderful friendships and create lifelong memories. Students join together in groups to create 12-minute-long shows featuring singing, dancing, creative sets, costumes, and completely original student-written scripts all based upon a central theme.

In addition to the group performances, Songfest also features several performances by the Songfest Hosts. The hosts make up a small ensemble of very talented students who spend several months preparing specially arranged music, choreography, and theme-based skits. These mini performances help to orient the audience throughout the show, while also providing smooth transitions from group to group.

Songfest tickets are currently on sale for $15 to the general public through the Smothers Theatre Box Office by calling (310) 506-4522. For more information about the performance, please contact Seaver College Student Activities at (310) 506-4201 or by .
