Center for the Arts Showcases Jason Robert Brown

Jason Robert Brown has been hailed as "one of Broadway's smartest and most sophisticated songwriters since Stephen Sondheim" (The Philadelphia Inquirer). He comes to Pepperdine Sunday, May 18, for "An Afternoon with Jason Robert Brown" beginning at 2 p.m. in Smothers Theatre on the Malibu campus.

The Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist--who is also a talented singer and pianist--and his band, the Caucasian Rhythm Kings (Gary Sieger, guitar, and Randy Landau, bass), will perform a revue of his music. Joining them will be a guest vocalist to be announced.

The concert is presented as part of the upcoming Festival of New American Musicals, which will take place during May and June. The festival, the first Southern California-wide cultural event since the 1984 Olympic Arts Festival, celebrates "the triumphant return of the American musical" with performances by cultural organizations from across the Los Angeles area.

Tickets for the Pepperdine concert, part of the University¹s Gregg G. Juarez Stars of Broadway Series, are priced at $40. For tickets and more information, please call (310) 506-4522 or visit the Center for the Arts Web site.
