Pepperdine Remains Neutral During Campaign Season

California voters have seen ads on television featuring a Pepperdine professor speaking on behalf of Proposition 8.

Many have suggested that because the ads identify the professor’s affiliation with Pepperdine, the ads are endorsed by the University.

That is not the case.

After removing Pepperdine’s name from the ad for a few days at the University’s request, the campaign introduced a new ad which carried a small disclaimer and re-inserted the University’s name.

Pepperdine would like to underscore that the professor exercised his right to free speech in appearing in the ad, and that the views expressed are his own. They do not represent a Pepperdine position.

Pepperdine University cannot and does not endorse candidates or ballot initiatives during election campaigns.

The University urges all registered California voters to vote on November 4 for the candidates and initiatives of their choice.
