Pepperdine to Induct Nine New Hall of Fame Athletes
Pepperdine Athletics has announced that nine of its all-time greats will make up its newest class of Hall of Fame inductees. An induction ceremony will be held Sunday, Nov. 2, at 5:30 p.m. at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, California.
The nine athletes who will be enshrined are: men’s volleyball player Dain Blanton ('94); baseball player James Brinton ('57); men's basketball player John Furlong ('51); men's golfer Jason Gore ('00); women’s tennis player Ginger Helgeson-Nielsen ('90); men’s volleyball player George Roumain ('99); women’s volleyball player Nicole (Sanderson) Hannan ('97); men’s volleyball player Jeff Stork ('85); and men’s tennis player Robbie Weiss ('97). Read more about these athletes and their accomplishments on the Pepperdine Athletics Web site.
"Our Athletics Hall of Fame is a showcase for Pepperdine’s rich history in intercollegiate athletics,” says John Watson, director of athletics at Pepperdine. “These nine inductees have earned their well-deserved place in our Hall of Fame, not only with what they accomplished here in Malibu, but in their professional lives as well. We are looking forward to bringing them back and honoring their achievements.”
The Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1980. These nine individuals will join 68 individuals and 12 teams that have already been enshrined. To be eligible for induction, nominees must have competed, coached for, or rendered an extraordinary service to Pepperdine Athletics. After nominations were accepted, Pepperdine’s Hall of Fame Committee made the decision on this year’s inductees.
Pepperdine friends and family are invited to attend the Hall of Fame ceremony. The cost is $50 per plate and a reservation must be made by October 20 by contacting Heather Collart at (310) 506-6483.
