Keion Bell's Dunk Explodes on Internet, ESPN
Keion Bell's amazing dunk over five of his teammates on the Pepperdine men's basketball team has gone viral, with several major internet blogs and publications picking it up as well as ESPN's popular television show SportsCenter, which featured it as a "Top Play." The dunk capped off Pepperdine's annual Blue & Orange Madness event to open the college basketball season on Oct. 16.

The dunk has also shown up on the following media outlets: ESPN SportsCenter's #2 Top Plays (10/21), SI.com Hot Clicks, Dime Magazine, Rivals.com/Yahoo!,, and the Yahoo! home page (10/21).
Bell, a sophomore on the Waves' squad, had a breakout debut last season. He was named to the West Coast Conference's All-Freshman Team and led the Waves in scoring. The 6'3 guard soared over his teammates, four of whom are 6'2 and the other is 6'1.
Bell's dunk was part of the annual Blue & Orange Madness dunk contest. Blue and Orange Madness marks the first opportunity for the Pepperdine men's and women's basketball teams to practice for the 2009-10 NCAA season.
The 2009-10 Pepperdine men's basketball team, led by head coach Tom Asbury, has 12 returning players from last season, although no seniors.
"Although we have a lot of returners, we have to be careful not to put too lofty expectations on the team because we're still going to be extremely young," Asbury says. "The bulk of this team is going to be freshmen and sophomores, numerically. We can't just assume that because we've got a lot of experience back, we're going to be world-beaters. We're going to be better, we're going to be more consistent, and we're going to be stronger physically, but our preseason schedule is going to be challenging and maybe even a little over our heads. But that was done by design."
Asbury has high expectations for Bell, the now YouTube legend. "I think Keion will be one of the top players in the conference," Asbury says. "He's improved his body, gotten bigger and stronger, and has a better understanding of the game and what we want to do. He's a pretty complete player. Once he makes a consistent jump shot and commits fewer turnovers, he may be the best player in the league at some point in time."
