Pepperdine Libraries Launch Worldwide Resource Retrieval Service

In time for the start of the new academic year, Pepperdine University Libraries have launched WorldCat Local, a resource retrieval service that allows users to access over 100 million unique resources worldwide including books, journals, media, government publications, maps, digital collections, and more.
Dean of Libraries Mark Roosa notes that, "WorldCat Local will provide students and faculty with new and exciting connections to the expanding world of knowledge resources. With its friendly user interface and improved inter-library loan and expedited delivery service, WorldCat Local is an effective and innovative way for users to search, locate and obtain materials in all formats from libraries around the world."
WorldCat Local is an online catalog interface that enables users to search locally and globally with ease and accuracy. It provides expanded Web access to numerous resources through a Google-like search box now available on the Pepperdine Libraries homepage at library.pepperdine.edu.
When a library user conducts a search using the new box, items that are available locally—collections in the Pepperdine Libraries—are shown at the top of the search results. The service also displays information about libraries outside Pepperdine to help users find resources that might not be available on campus, but that can be requested through the synchronized inter-library loan service. Users can place holds on checked out items or request a loan of an item from another library right from their search page. Access WorldCat Local and the new search box at library.pepperdine.edu.
For users of the iPhone or iPod Touch, Pepperdine Library materials can be accessed through WorldCat WorldCat Mobile app wherever you are. It is now available for download from the iPhone App Store. Non-iPhone users can view the iPhone App Store in iTunes.
