Waves Hoops Head to WCC Tournament
The Pepperdine men's basketball team heads into the postseason as the #6-seed at this weekend’s Zappos.com West Coast Conference championships (WCC) at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Waves will play a first-round game at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 4, where they will take on #7-seed University of San Diego, a team that they have already defeated twice this season. If the Waves win on Friday, they will go on to play against #3-seed University of San Francisco at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 5, in a quarterfinal game.
Close games have been a hallmark of the Waves as of late, as the final three contests of the regular season, as well as five of the last six, saw a game-winning or game-tying shot attempt at the regulation buzzer.
The road to the NCAA tournament begins Saturday, Mar. 5, at 2:15 p.m. for the women’s basketball team at the Orleans Arena when they face either #6-seed Loyola Marymount University or #7-seed University of San Diego in the second of two quarterfinal matches at the WCC championships. The Waves swept both schools during the 2010-2011 regular season and are 20-15 all-time at the WCC tournament. They have won three championships (2002, 2003, 2006) since the tournament’s inception in 1992.
Friday's 8:30 p.m. men’s basketball game will be shown on BYUtv, and fans can listen and join a live blog on the Pepperdine Athletics website. All of Pepperdine's women's WCC championship games will be broadcast by Al Epstein live and for free on the Pepperdine Athletics website. Only the WCC women's championship game will be televised and will be shown live on ESPNU at 12 noon on Monday, Mar. 7.
