Waves Rugby Win Last Home Game of the Season
The as yet undefeated Pepperdine rugby team outplayed rival Cal Lutheran with a 43-7 victory in their last home game of the season on Monday, Mar. 28, at Alumni Park in Malibu. The win marks the Waves’ move towards the Division II Playoffs in San Diego taking place Saturday, Apr. 16, and Sunday, Apr. 17. A victory there would position the team as a contender at the national championship on Saturday, Apr. 30, in Pittsburgh, Penn.
The Waves earned their first national ranking last week after defeating CSU Fullerton, placing 25th in the nation according to RugbyMag.com’s DII ranking. The team faces CSU Fullerton again Saturday, Apr. 2, at Fullerton and takes on UCSD the following weekend at an away game.
The Pepperdine rugby football club has a storied tradition of more than 50 years at Pepperdine University, making it one of the University's oldest club sports. A club by membership only, Pepperdine rugby enjoys a roster of about 35 players with new members welcome every year.
