Seaver Dean's Office Hosts Undergraduate Research Banquet and Presentations
The Seaver Dean's Office hosted the 2012 Undergraduate Research Banquet and Presentations March 29 at various locations across the Malibu campus. The evening commenced with a reception celebrating the student participants and their faculty mentors in the Seaver Board Room.
Leading the reception was vice provost for Research and Strategic Initiatives Lee Kats, who notes, "Nothing defines our university better than our emphasis on student learning. Our research banquet and subsequent evening of student presentations are just two ways that we highlight the creative and scholarly products that are the culmination of student-faculty collaborations."
The celebration dinner also included a prayer led by Seaver College dean Rick Marrs, followed by an introduction by associate dean of teaching and assessment Constance Fulmer and remarks on undergraduate research by assistant provost of institutional effectiveness Lisa Bortman.
Following the reception was a series of oral and poster presentations highlighting the research projects on which the students and faculty had collaborated for more than a year. "The high quality of these student presentations are a hallmark of Pepperdine where deep learning and creativity occur both inside and outside of the classroom," adds Kats, of the multidisciplinary subject matters. The presenters were comprised of those students who participated in the Academic Year Undergraduate Research Initiative, Summer Undergraduate Research Program, Cross Disciplinary Undergraduate Research Program, Undergraduate Research Fellowship, and Summer Undergraduate Research in Biology.
