Waves of Service hosted the B Corporation Pitch Competition presented by B Revolution Friday, Feb. 15, at Pepperdine's Drescher campus in Malibu.
Ten social enterprise ventures pitched for a chance to win a $1,000 cash prize, more than $10,000 in consulting services, and a spot to pitch for $20,000 at Crowd Impact, a pitch competition hosted by B Revolution Capital and Crowdfunder. After an initial application period, B Revolution selected finalists to pitch in front of a panel of judges. The company also hosted workshops on becoming a B Corporation.
The First Place prize went to Picture Healing, an affordable, do-it-yourself mobile app builder for nonprofit organizations. Stone + Cloth, a California-based manufacturer of quality-made backpacks that donates $10 from each purchase directly to Knock Foundation, an organization that creates opportunities in education, healthy living, and clean environments for underserved populations in the developing world. In Third Place was Open Door, which provides software to foster care systems.
The day's judges included Marty Metro, founder and CEO of UsedCardboardBoxes.com; Howard Leonhardt, chair and CEO of The California Stock Exchange and Leonhardt Ventures; and Stephen Meade, founder of BigBamboo LLC.
