Former Pepperdine tennis star and Swedish doubles expert Simon Aspelin earned a silver medal in the men's tennis doubles competition Saturday, Aug. 16. The medal gave him the best Olympic result ever by a Waves tennis player. more

Public Policy Professor Weighs In on State Probation Program
Since October 2007 Angela Hawken, assistant professor of public policy, and Mark Kleiman, a professor of public policy at UCLA, have been evaluating Hawaii's Opportunity Probation with Enforcement program (HOPE), an experimental rehabilitation program for high-risk convicted drug offenders. They presented their findings in late July among representatives from public policy organizations and state and federal agencies at the Pew Center in Washington, D.C. more

Marshall Joins Elite Theory and Criticism Scholars at Cornell University

Some people consider the study of theory to be torture. But April Marshall, assistant professor of Spanish at Seaver College, devoted six weeks of her summer to studying the theory of torture. She was selected from a pool of over 200 applicants to attend the prestigious School of Criticism and Theory at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from June 15 to July 24. more
Pepperdine Faculty Attend World Conference on Religious Dialogue

Three Pepperdine faculty members participated in the prestigious World Conference on Dialogue, held July 16 to 18 in Madrid, Spain, at the invitation of the king of Saudi Arabia, King Abdullah Bin-Abdul Al-Aziz al-Saud. Khalil Jahshan, director of the Seaver College Washington, D.C. program; Rick Marrs, dean of Seaver College and professor of religion; and Tim Pownall, associate director of the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at the School of Law, were among the 288 distinguished guests at the three-day conference. more
Pepperdine Athletes Prepare for Beijing Olympics

Pepperdine University will be well represented in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, where five former Pepperdine student-athletes will compete and four more will serve as coaches. At least 12 Pepperdine graduates will play a role in the Beijing games. Three of the athletes will be taking part in their first Olympics, bringing Pepperdineâs all-time total to 40 Olympians. more

Bush to discuss his newest book, "A Magnificent Catastrophe: The Tumultuous Election of 1800". The commander in chief welcomed Larson to a private meeting in the Oval Office to discuss the book. more
