Alumni, families, faculty, and staff will come home to Malibu October 18 to 20 for Waves Weekend, Pepperdine's annual homecoming celebration. The three-day event will feature reunions, tours, surfing lessons, hikes, Blue & Orange Madness--including Madness Village--and much more.
A highlight of this year's Waves Weekend festivities is an acoustic performance by multi-platinum recording artist Gavin DeGraw, with special guest, alumna Jessica Childress ('07) from season 4 of NBC's smash hit The Voice.
The series of events will commence Friday, Oct. 18, with a Celebration Chapel, a student-led devotional and time of worship, followed by a tour of the Frederick R. Weisman Museum's Art for Art's Sake exhibit.
At 5 pm, the Seaver College freshman class will present the Res Road Regatta, a parade of floats around the residential road. Decorating floats to match their house themes for the year, the parade route will take them past all of the residence houses. At the end of the event, each house will have two minutes to fit as many people into a Mini Cooper as they can.
The first day of festivities will conclude with Blue & Orange Madness, the popular student event packed with school spirit, featuring a variety of acts and student entertainers, which will kickoff the men's and women's NCAA basketball seasons. Additionally, one student and one parent will each attempt a half-court shot for a year of free tuition.
Pepperdine constantly seeks the counsel, wisdom, and guidance of God through prayer among the members of our local community. On Saturday morning, parents, students, alumni, and friends are invited to join in a prayer walk beginning at the Stauffer Chapel and ending at the Amphitheatre.
Registrants will have the opportunity to explore the classic Southern California architecture of Adamson House, a home that sits on one of the most beautiful beaches in the state. The Adamson House was, for a time, home to Pepperdine President Norvel Young and his family.
Attendees may sign up to take in Malibu's scenic beauty on a nature hike through Solstice Canyon with Dr. Rodney Honeycutt, professor of biology, who will point out interesting flora and fauna.
Are you ready to laugh? The Pepperdine Improv Troupe (PIT) will be entertaining the masses at the Howard A. White Center on Day 2 of Waves Weekend. PIT has been performing for the past seven years and promises to be a hilarious addition to Waves Weekend.
Finally, the weekend will close Sunday, Oct. 21, with the Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony, where two legendary coaches, two Olympians, and a two-time National Player of the Year will be inducted into the Pepperdine University Athletics Hall of Fame (registration required).
