John: You are a better man than I. To do it every year is amazing - and on a motorcycle no less. You are my hero!

Andy,

I have really enjoyed reading your blog. I have ridden (motorcycle) several times with a group that does Route 66 every year in June. We meet just outside Chicago on the second Saturday in June and ride to Santa Monica in a week. We have a blast and obviously so did you!

I hope you stopped in Seligman, AZ to see some of the wonderful people (e.g., Angel the barber) and their shops. Great place!

Thanks again!

The point of the trip was listening and understanding. There is nothing quite like speaking with someone face-to-face to see what they really thing and how they express their hopes and dreams and positions. E-mail, texting and the like just don't accomplish the same.

Critical reasoning, common sense and the ability to handle money were the suggestions most often put forward, by the way.

Everyone who responded to this day brings back a memory - and a pleasant one at that. Thanks for writing. I wish each of you could have come along for a portion of this terrific day.

Joplin was a great stop in all respects. I would have liked to stayed longer and to look around. This, by the way, is a hard admission for a Kansan.

I have always enjoyed the occasional quiet moment and the story Doug relates is both interesting and sad to me. There is entirely too much "noise" in life when it is silence that speaks so clearly.

What great memories. You are very kind about my youth. I was a bit edgy and you were gentle and understanding. Thanks.

Miami was a highlight and the theatre is something I will never forget.

Thanks for blogging in, David. May God continue to bless you.

I hate to dump on a city, but Amarillo is just an acquired taste I have not acquired. I think it started last year when I got "skunked" on a decent hotel room (and my standards were none too high at that point). I need to try Amarillo from a different angle, maybe upwind.

To set the record straight: I not only stood on a corner in Winslow, I had apple pie there! Winslow owes the Eagles big time, let's face it. Like so many cities on the route, they have found economic equilibrium while simply maintaining a slower pace of life. Good for them and a fun stop for the rest of us.

They have come a long way since the spur was opened in 1984. Sheer determination is bringing business and hope back to Williams. The Grand Canyon Hotel is a special delight.
