From
the President
Of
Pepperdine's Heritage of Faith
The headwaters of Pepperdine University's heritage of
faith can be traced back to the University's founder,
George Pepperdine. Through his inspired life flowed the
highest Christian values and professional standards of
conduct.
As an innovative business leader, dedicated family
man, and generous benefactor, Mr. Pepperdine represents
the best of a great American generation. His faith in
God and commitment to excellence set the University's
original compass heading in 1937, and today still guides
the course of this institution.
The extent to which he and other dedicated servant
leaders have shaped the destiny of this institution is
significant and lasting. As a community, our debt to Mr.
Pepperdine, and so many others, can only be paid through
remembrance and through living lives exemplary of their
high ideals.
We affirm through our faith, in John Ruskin's words,
that "The good is not in, but through us."
Such is one of the great differences between Pepperdine
and other institutions of higher learning. That we
pledge ourselves to remaining faithful to who we have
been, and who we are, lights our way now and in the
future.
We are grateful for the support we receive from
alumni and friends, near and far, in helping Pepperdine
continue on a path that is both good and true. Through
your continued trust and faith in this University, there
is truly no limit to what we can accomplish.
