Destination College
Description:
The Fulfillment Fund is a college access organization. Established in 1977, their purpose is to mentor, counsel and guide disadvantaged high school students to achieve a college education. In Los Angeles, the average high school graduation rate is less than 50%. Fulfillment Fund students defy this statistic by graduating from high school and going on to college. Most of their students are first generation, thus making them the first in their family to reach this milestone.
Destination College is the most popular of all Fulfillment Fund events. It unites both current and past students, mentors and parents for a day of workshops and seminars which aim to educate senior high school students and their parents about the college experience. Topics range from the application process during students' senior year in high school, to living on a college campus. The day has also become a prime showcase for college recruiters as well. The College Fair component draws admissions and alumni representatives from universities nationwide.
Student volutneers are needed to aid in facilitating ice breakers; share their personal experiences with the students; guide the groups to specific locations on campus; and help with registration and set-up.
