Saturday, September 10

Put a little extra "Pepp" in your step and join the Bay Area Waves at one of two locations for Step Forward Day 2016! On Saturday, September 10, the Bay Area Waves will be making twice the difference by partnering with both the Second Harvest Food Bank in San Jose and SF-Marin Food Bank in San Francisco. Pick the place closest to you (or nearest to your heart) and celebrate Pepperdine's mission of purpose, service, and leadership!

8:45 AM - 12 PM: Second Harvest Food Bank (San Jose)

Join the Bay Area Waves to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank for a morning of service! Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties is the trusted leader dedicated to ending local hunger by providing food to nearly a quarter of a million people each month. The Bay Area Waves will be sorting food to help provide food to local people in need. Everyone ages 14 and up is welcome to participate in this fun-filled service project. Every volunteer must fill out the Volunteer Agreement form prior to the service project. Volunteers under the age of 18 must also have a parent or guardian fill out the Parent/Guardian Permission Form.

Please be sure to wear casual, comfortable clothes appropriate for working in a warehouse. Closed-toe shoes and long pants are required to participate. Due to health and safety regulations, shorts and tank tops are not permitted. Please leave all valuables in the trunk of your cars. Purses and backpacks are not allowed in the warehouse.

Parking Instructions and Directions:

There is onsite parking available at Second Harvest Food Bank.
If arriving by light rail: Exit at Tasman Station. Walk 1 ½ blocks North to 4001 N. First Street.
If arriving by bus: Use Bus #58

9 AM - 12 PM: SF-Marin Food Bank

Join the Bay Area Waves to partner with SF-Marin Food Bank for a morning of service! The SF-Marin Food Bank is working to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin by providing 100,000 meals worth of food each day to people in need. The Bay Area Waves will be helping with gleaning fresh produce, repackaging bulk goods into family-sized quantities, assembling grocery boxes for seniors, and sorting donations from food drives and grocery stores. In a single shift, you'll be helping thousands of people get the food they need. Everyone ages 8 and up is welcome to participate in this fun-filled service project.

  • Closed-toe shoes are required at all volunteer projects. Anyone wearing sandals, flip-flops, or any other shoe with an open toe will not be able to participate in the project.
  • Because you'll be helping to repack food, please wear casual and clean clothing, long pants, securely fastened jewelry, and comfortable (no open-toe) shoes.
  • We suggest dressing in layers, as the temperature in the warehouse is often cool.

Where to report:

  • We ask all volunteers to sign in upon arrival. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your shift to sign in.
  • Please enter the building through our Receiving Entrance on the south side of the building near the loading dock
