School of Law to Host Conference on Justice for Veterans

Pepperdine University School of Law will host the two-day conference “Access to Justice for Veterans: Coordinated Responses of a Grateful Nation” at the Malibu campus on Thursday, November 3, and Friday, November 4, from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Collaborative responses are critical to ensuring access to justice for veterans. This event will feature discussions of best practices and emerging policies for serving justice in situations involving veterans, as well as an examination of advocacy within and beyond government and public responses.

Prominent keynote speakers, multidisciplinary panels, guided networking sessions, and concurrent sessions will address veterans’ complex legal needs, generate ideas for creative collaboration to reach out to veterans, and explore public and private responses in policy and practice, culture, and law.

Additional topics to be discussed include veterans’ treatment courts, volunteer lawyer programs, clinics, public defenders, medical-legal partnerships, community education, discharge upgrades, military sexual trauma, homelessness, addiction, post-trauma disorders, traumatic brain injuries, suicide, cultural competence, and gender equity.

The Thursday session will feature the documentary Thank You for the Service, followed by a talkback session with some of the filmmakers.
