Lisa Smith Wengler Center for the Arts Presents TAIKOPROJECT
On Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 7:30 PM, the Lisa Smith Wengler Center for the Arts
will present TAIKOPROJECT in Smothers Theatre on the Pepperdine Malibu campus. TAIKOPROJECT
will perform the powerful percussive concert “Benzaiten.” The Fresno Bee reviewed the group’s blend of ancient Japanese tradition and 21st-century innovation as “drum nirvana.”
Inspired by Benzaiten, the Japanese goddess of everything that flows, the TAIKOPROJECT’s new concert effortlessly combines power and strength with grace and movement. The group harnesses a dynamic of contemporary taiko, music, storytelling, and choreography to connect with ancient Japanese tradition and modern innovation for a powerful percussive experience.
